Companheiros e Companheiras de LUTA,

Nosso querido camarada Augusto Boal, o semeador incansável, que viajou os quatro cantos do mundo espalhando a semente do Teatro do Oprimido, está em mais uma viagem. Partiu nas primeiras horas do dia 02 de maio de 2009. Passou o PRIMEIRO DE MAIO em vigília solidária a todos os trabalhadores e trabalhadoras que lutam por um mundo mais justo, solidário e feliz.

Partiu nessa viagem especial, por isso não se fará mais presente em nenhum evento. Mas, como era de seu costume, viveu, amou e trabalhou até a última gota de energia, deixando pronto o livro *A Estética do Oprimido*. Deixou também a ordem expressa de que nenhum evento seja cancelado por sua ausência. "Não é este o sentido da Multiplicação?"

Ontem, 03 de maio, fizemos uma cerimônia de despedida. Seu corpo anunciava o começo de uma nova etapa do Teatro do Oprimido, com a ausência física de seu Mestre. Choramos, falamos, cantamos. Celso Frateschi declamou, lindamente, um trecho do Arena Canta Zumbi. Cantamos a canção criada por Nuno Arcanjo. E Cecília Boal, com toda a força e vitalidade, gritou aos quatro ventos que seu marido deveria ser lembrado como o guerreiro que sempre foi. Limpamos nossas lágrimas e aplaudimos a partida de Boal.

Seu corpo se foi, mas sua presença não! Neste sábado, dia 09 de maio, das 17h às 20h, ratificaremos essa PRESENÇA em uma homenagem, no Centro de Teatro do Oprimido, com música, poesia, teatro e vídeo. Um ato à vida, à luta, à produtividade, à obra e à continuidade do trabalho de Augusto Boal. Às 19h, faremos um minuto solene de saudação a Boal. Solicitamos e estimulamos todos e todas a fazerem eventos semelhantes pela honra de Boal neste sábado.

Não será fácil seguir sem nosso Mestre, Parceiro, Amigo e Camarada de Luta. Mas o que foi fácil na trajetória do Teatro do Oprimido?

A ética e a solidariedade como fundamentos e guias. A Multiplicação como estratégia. A promoção de ações sociais continuadas e concretas, para a transformação de realidades opressivas, como meta.

Brothers and sisters in arms, companions in the struggle

Our beloved comrade Augusto Boal, that tireless sower of seeds, who travelled the four corners of the earth scattering the seed of the Theatre of the Oppressed, is on yet another journey. He set off in the early hours of the second of May. He spent the First of May, May day, in a vigil of solidarity with the workers fighting for a fairer and happier world, a world of solidarity.

He set off on this special journey, for which reason he was not able to be physcially present at any event. But, as was his habit, he lived, loved and worked to the last drop of his energy, leaving ready -for publication- the new version of his book, The Aesthetics of the Oppressed. He also left express instructions that no event should be cancelled because of his absence. ’Isn't that the very point of Multiplication?“

Yesterday, on the third of May, we held a farewell ceremony . The cremation of his body marked the start of a new phase of the Theatre of the Oppressed, in the physical absence of the Master himself. We wept, we talked, we sang. Celse Frateschi declaimed, beautifully, a passage from Arena Conta Zumbi. We sang a song written by Nuno Arcanjo. And Cecilia Boal, with all her strength and vitality, told the world that her husband should be remembered as the warrior that he always was. We dried our tears and acclaimed Boal's leaving.

His body has gone, but not his presence! This Saturday, the 9th of May, from 5pm to 8pm (Brazilian time), we will ratify his presence with a homage, at the Centre of the Theatre of the Oppressed with music, poems, performances and videos. At 7pm we stop to make a minute of ovation to Boal´s honor. We will celebrate the life, the struggle, the productivity, the work of Augusto Boal and the continuity of that work. We ask and stimulate everybody to do same homage to him in this Saturday.

It will not be easy to follow our Master, Partner, Friend and Comrade in the Struggle. But what has ever been easy in the trajectory of the Theatre of the Oppressed?

Ethics and Solidarity will be our foundations and our guides. Multiplication will be our strategy. And our goal will remain the mounting of concrete social actions to bring about the transformation of oppressive realities.
